Round Fiber Void for Floring, Bridge Deck Piling and Precast/prestressed Beams

Smurfit Concrete Voids™ provide the means for better utilization of space through a reduction in weight of structural members. Voided flat slab forming permits use of shallower floors and results in a smooth underside for direct application of plaster, paint and tile. Voids created by Smurfit Concrete Voids™ are used as ducts for wiring and offer greater flexibility to the designer of heating and air conditioning systems.

Durable round Smurfit Concrete Voids™ are constructed with a moisture-resistant polysandwich ply. Weather-treated Smurfit Concrete Voids™ are wax coated and are recommended for general construction installations. Specially treated Smurfit Concrete Voids™ are available for the pre-stressed concrete industry.

Round Smurfit Concrete Voids™ are available in sizes from two inches to 49 inches O.D. Lengths to 50 feet. Plastic, metal or fiber-end closures available to fit standard sizes.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Please click on the Guide Specs button for access to downloadable Guide Specifications that are written according to the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Format contained in the CSI Manual of Practice.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Smurfit Concrete Voids™ should be stored on timbers at least 4 inches above the ground and covered with a waterproof tarpaulin. Do not use clear polyethylene film as a cover.

  • Weep holes are necessary to prevent the buildup of air pressure and moisture resulting from heat generated by hydration of the concrete surrounding the void.

  • When Smurfit Concrete Voids™ are used in pre-cast bridge pilings for underwater installation, that portion of the voids and finished piling that is to be underwater should be properly vented.

  • Smurfit Concrete Voids™ should be held securely in place while pouring the concrete.
