Principle in Practice:
To help develop public policies on environmental health and safety issues

All members of our corporate environmental staff participate in regulatory development through participation in American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA) committees. These committees analyze new regulatory proposals and work with the EPA, OSHA, and state agencies to assure that scientifically and cost-justified environmental and safety goals can be achieved, while, at the same time, maintaining the industry's competitiveness.

Members of our environmental staff hold leadership positions on industry committees now working on new effluent guidelines, air emission standards, and global climate change policy to be sure that, when finalized, regulations in these areas will be reasonable and cost effective. Staff members also interface with elected officials and regulatory agencies. In addition, we closely monitor states' implementation of federal rules pertaining to the environment.
