Smurfit-Stone Names Roger Hagan General Manager at Coschocton Containerboard Mill

CHICAGO, March 22, 1999 – Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation (Nasdaq: SSCC) has named Roger Hagan general manager of the company's Coshocton, OH, containerboard mill. He replaces Bob Lynch, who has taken over the general manager's responsibilities at the company's Florence, SC, mill.

Hagan joined the company in 1977 and has worked in a variety of technical, engineering and production positions. Most recently, he had been the general manager at the company's Circleville, OH, boxboard mill. That facility discontinued operations December 1 as part of a restructuring.

A native of Seattle, WA, Hagan earned a Master of Science in paper chemistry from the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, WI, and a BS in pulp and paper technology from the University of Washington.

Smurfit-Stone is the industry's leading manufacturer of paper-based packaging, including corrugated containers, folding cartons, industrial bags and other consumer and industrial packaging. It is the largest producer of containerboard, boxboard and kraft paper, and the largest collector, marketer, and exporter of recovered fiber. The company operates more than 300 facilities worldwide.
