Smurfit-Stone Names Goffard Vice President
CHICAGO, May 5, 1999 Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation (Nasdaq: SSCC) has named Edwin Goffard as a vice president and corporate officer.
In his new position, Goffard will coordinate the integration process of the Jefferson Smurfit and Stone Container organizations that began last summer. His primary responsibility will be continuing the development of the company's synergy program.
Since 1996, Goffard served as a director of purchasing at the Pepsi-Cola Company. Prior to joining Pepsi-Cola, he served as a consultant with McKinsey & Company, based in Germany from 1989-1993 and in Texas from 1993-1996.
Goffard earned a BS in chemical engineering from Vrije Universiteit in Brussels, Belgium, and an MBA from both Katholieke Universiteit in Leuven, Belgium, and Cornell University in New York. He will be based at the company's corporate office in Chicago.
Smurfit-Stone is the industry's leading manufacturer of paper-based packaging, including corrugated containers, folding cartons, industrial bags and other consumer and industrial packaging. It is the largest producer of containerboard, boxboard and kraft paper, and the largest collector, marketer, and exporter of recovered fiber. The company operates more than 300 facilities worldwide. Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation was formed November 18, 1998 as a result of the merger of Jefferson Smurfit Corporation and Stone Container Corporation.
