Smurfit-Stone's Sioux Falls, SD, Corrugated Container
Plant Earns ISO 9001 Registration
CHICAGO, April 3, 2000 Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation's
(Nasdaq: SSCC)
Sioux Falls, SD, corrugated container plant has achieved International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 registration for quality assurance.
The plant received notice of registration from Det Norske Veritas, Inc.,
following a thorough assessment of its quality system. Registration is
effective through January 2003, subject to semi-annual compliance audits.
ISO 9001 certification is recognized for promoting consistency in the
control of manufacturing processes and signifies adherence to standards
in manufacturing, distribution and services.
Specific sections outlined within the ISO registration process include
management responsibility, contract review, design, purchasing, product
inspection and testing, equipment calibration and customer satisfaction.
The Sioux Falls corrugated container plant is located at 100 East Benson
Road.
Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation was formed
on November 18, 1998 as a result of the merger of Jefferson Smurfit Corporation
and Stone Container Corporation. The company is the industry's leading
manufacturer of paper and paperboard-based packaging, including containerboard,
corrugated containers, industrial bags, and claycoated recycled boxboard;
